The plan envisages: an increase in the capacities of renewable energy to 45% and a reduction of the emissions of harmful gases by more than 40%, an improvement of energy efficiency and a gradual decarbonization.
– With this document, we will set goals, priorities and dynamics for what we will do in the coming decades so as the ensure a secure supply and the optimal energy independence for our citizens and the economy – says Dubravka Djedovic, the minister of mining and energy.
In the energy transition process, the economy has the key role – it is the first one to be affected by the changes, and it has to harmonize its activities with strict environmental standards. That is why a joint response of the public and private sectors is necessary.
– I believe that this is the most important topic, everything depends on it, the future life of our companies depends on whether we will be productive, on whether we will be competitive, whether we will be able to sell our goods, produced here, in the markets which are demanding when it comes to energy, also depends on it – says Marko Cadez, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS).
The plan also encompasses changes in transport, which has to be sustainable in all segments – from the rail sector, public transport, to electric cars owned by citizens.
– That is the plan and that is what we are doing together with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, to stimulate citizens to shift to using electric vehicles through higher subsidies – says Dubravka Djedovic.
The minister of energy invites the public to send suggestions which could contribute to energy transition by July 27 so that Serbia would get “The Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan” in the autumn.
