Progress of Construction of Longest Tunnel in Serbia (VIDEO)

The construction of the longest tunnel in Serbia, which will be part of the Fruska Gora Corridor and which passes right under Fruska Gora, started in May 2021.

Since then, the works have been constantly done in two locations, on the Novi Sad side of the mountain and on the Irig side, in the locations of the entrances to the future tunnel.

On the north side of Fruska Gora, closer to Novi Sad, a big part of the preparatory works before the beginning of the excavation of the tunnel have already been done.

The support wall has been done, there are also buildings for the workers, and progress is also apparent at the access road, which will be turned into a four-lane traffic route with a width of 16 meters.

This will make it a double-tube tunnel, just like the tunnel at the entrance to Novi Sad, near Miseluk, which leads directly to the Freedom Bridge. Still, the one underneath Fruska Gora will be the longest one in Serbia, and, after 3.5 kilometers (more precisely, 3,480 meters), it will see the light of day right at the foot of the mountain, right in front of Irig.

The works are also being done on that side, and it is noticeable that space has been cleared for the arrival of the machines and the equipment and that a camp for the workers has been prepared.

The arrival of boring machines and the beginning of the excavation of the tunnel are expected soon.

The deadline for the completion of all the works on this section, according to the agreement, is March 2025, but the contractor CRBC announced that the works would be finished in March 2024.
