Telekom Srbije obtained license for third mobile operator in Montenegro – investments in amount of 120m EUR announced
Montenegrin Telecommunication Agency officially handed the license for the third mobile operator in Montenegro yesterday (May 9, 2007) to "Telekom Srbije". The license, issued on period of 15 years, includes services of the second and the third generations of mobile telephony, as well as the license for company "Mtel", which was formed by "Telekom Srbije" and Dutch "Ogalar", to provide services of wireless telephony, that is, application of WiMax technology.
The Manager of "Agentel", Zoran Sekulić, stated that the total projected investments of all operators would amount to 118m EUR, and that the commercial exploitation would start within next two or three months. The licenses for the third generation of mobile telephony have been handed to the existing Montenegrin mobile operators, companies "Promonte" and "T-mobile", which also obtained licenses for WiMax technology. The license for WiMax technology has also been handed to Podgorica-based company "Broadband Montenegro".
"Mtel" paid 17.05m EUR for both licenses, whereas “Promonte” paid 4m EUR for both licenses, and "T-mobile" gave 2m EUR for them. The license for building, owning and use of public telecommunication network and services in that field has been handed to Podgorica-based company "MN news".
General Manager of "Telekom Srbije", Draško Petrović, announced that "Mtel" would invest 120m EUR and employ 150 workers, and that the services would be available already at the beginning of July. He said that 90% of Montenegro would be covered with signal prior to the end of the year and that they would take over 15-20% of telecommunication market in as short time as possible.
