VUCIC: We will sell Zelezara Smederevo in one year

Aleksandar Vucic said at the opening ceremony of the International Tourism Fair in Belgrade yesterday that the final goal of the Serbian government was to sell Zelezara Smederevo, adding that a new attempt at selling the steelworks in Smederevo would be made in a year, year and a half.
- We don't want the state to be the owner of Zelezara Smederevo, but since we failed to sell it, a worse solution needs to be accepted, and that is to introduce a new management that will be selected by tender - said Vucic.

He added that the Government of Serbia was "not a communist party" and that it behaved the way it must behave in the market economy, citing that as a reason for reinitiation of the steelworks privatization process.

Negotiations with the US company Esmark on the sale of Zelezara Smederevo ended in a failure three days ago, and Vucic then announced that a tender to appoint the new management at that steel mill would be launched on Monday, February 23rd.
