Focus on 5G network and cloud system development - Ericsson presents new solutions at Mobile World Congress Fair in Barcelona (PHOTO)
Speaking about plans for this year, the head of Ericsson said the interest in cloud systems and services has been on the constant increase and therefore Swedish company will continue with constant development of hardware and software systems and 5G network. Presented software solutions will be available in mid-2015.
Ericsson and Intel develop cloud
Vestberg announced strengthening of cooperation with long-term partner, Intel, when it comes to "cloud" system development. New solutions for "cloud" system including "Ericsson HDS 8000" (Hyperscale Datacenter System), based on Intel Rack Scale architecture, Ericsson Secure Cloud Storage i Ericsson Continuum platform for hybrid cloud. "Ericsson HDS 8000" will be available late this year.
Brian Krzanich, the head at Intel mentioned that this project strengthened long-term cooperation with Ericsson as well as that development of cloud hardware will enable services to decrease their total ownership costs (TCO), as well as to achieve greater flexibility and efficiency in their databases.
Security in cloud
Large companies usually mention fear of security and data management as the main reason for not moving to cloud. However, as Jason Hoffman, manager of the "cloud" technology department at Ericsson says, this kind of system of Swedish company solves mentioned problems, increases system performances and presents added value for operators and other big companies.
Ericsson Connected Traffic Cloud for traffic safety
Vestberg added the importance of "networked society is in connection of all systems which make company, not only devices into systems ". One of the examples is "Connected Traffic Cloud" which Ericsson presented in Barcelona which was created to provide more secure and efficient traffic.
As Vestberg said, it is cloud platforms which enable data exchange from traffic into real time between connected vehicles and traffic control services. With this Ericsson solution, services will get more precise and faster information on road situation.
Ericsson and Telstra develop 5G network
While Serbia is impatiently waiting for 4G network, Ericsson has been developing for some time now 5G. Although set up of commercial 5G networks is expected no sooner than in 2020, in July last year the company started testing whwer data transfer speed of 5 Gb/s was achieved. At the current fair, Swedish company announced cooperation with Australian mobile operator, Telstra" when it comes to development of 5G technologies and standards.
Cooperation of Ericsson and Telstra will start in Q2 2015 and will develop with standards and 5G technology progress and become commercially available in early 2020.
Four trends in 2015
Since last year stream video was more popular than classical TV among population between 16 and 43, Vestberger said he expects the trend to continue in 2015 as well.
-We set up four key changes in 2015. More people will watch stream video than TV on weekly basis and video will generate half of mobile traffic. LTE subscriber increase will exceed 80% and coverage of mobile broadband internet will be in more than 70%. These are strong changes and they will open new options both in ICT and other industries - Hans Vestberg, the head at Ericsson concluded in his speech at the MCW Fair in Barcelona which eKapija also visited.
