New management of Zelezara Smederevo plans to use completely different approach to business

HPK engineering's co-owner John Goodish has said that he will start working at Smederevo-based steelworks on Monday, from 8 AM, adding that the new management will officially take office as soon as the documentation is completed, which is expected around May 1st.

He stressed that the future of the workers of Zelezara Smederevo was in their hands and that the steel mill would be successful if the management and workers were working together.

When asked about their development strategy for the steelworks in Smederevo, Goodish replied:

- We plan to use a completely different approach to the procurement of raw materials and supplies for the plant, and the market will also be very important to us. However, we won't share the details of our strategy with others. It is our primary responsibility to implement it successfully - said Goodish.

Asked if HKP engineering intends to try to privatize the steelworks at the end of this year, as it is being speculated, the other co-owner of the company, Peter Kamaras, has said that it is definitely not going to happen by the year's end.

Trade unions satisfied

Sinisa Prelic, the president of the Zelezara Independent Trade Union , said in his guest appearance on RTS Dnevnik that the workers of Zelezara Smederevo were satisfied with the contract signed with HPK engineerin.
