The new, digital era in Serbia began today with the turning off of analogue signal at the broadcasting station Vrsacki Breg and its connecting to the digital TV broadcasting system.

This ceremony was attended by Rasim Ljajic, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, and Branko Gogic, Acting Director of the public company Emisione tehnike i veze.

- This is the final stage in the digitization process in Serbia and the start of switching off of analogue TV signal. Vrsac is the first town in Serbia to be completely switched to digital TV signal - Ljajic said today in Vrsac.

The minister noted that the project cost EUR 37.5 million, which included EUR 10 million in EU donations. Ljajic said that the state had invested EUR 27 million and pointed out that the project would bring about minimum EUR 75 milllion in revenue for the state budget, after digitial dividends are sold, which will happen right after the digitization process is completed.

He reminded that Vojvodina would be completely covered by digital TV signal by May 18th, whereas analogue signal at the broadcasting station Avala, which covers an area populated by about 2.5 million people, should be turned off on May 25th.

Ljajic stressed that the digitization process in Serbia would be completely finished by June 15th.
