Russia will immediately pay to Greece EUR 3 to 5 m, German newspapers Spiegel announced.

As Athens magazine, "Katimerini" reported today, "Spiegel" reports that one Greek official said that “the decision will largely change negotiations on debts of Greece.

The agreement on Russian payment, the German newspaper reports, was achieved at last week’s meeting of the Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Cipras with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

Putin then decided that the gas pipeline for Russian natural gas, "Turkish stream" continues from Turkey through Greece, the newspaper report.

Russian payment will be an advance for the future profit of Greece generated through transit of gas through pipeline which should, as it was announced, start operating in 2019s.

Athens economic magazine "Agora" announced the Greek government supported agreement with Russia.

After sudden abandoning of the South stream, a gas pipeline towards south Europe, Moscow decided to build gas pipeline to Turkey instead of Ukraine, which will become a transit country for Russian gas.

That planned gas pipeline, called Turkish stream, would end at the border of Turkey and Greece and Cipras’ government wants to extend it so that Greece would become “an important distribution center for natural gas”, AFP agency reported from its sources during the visit of Cipras to Moscow.

It was then announced that Putin mentioned the option that Russia could support financially construction of gas pipeline through north Greece.

Russia could, the source of AFP, “allow Greece to earn expected profit generated through the project, which it would repay as of 2019 when the gas pipeline starts operating which would provide “thousands million euros” to Greece.
