Clinical Center of Serbia bought device that enables easier access to the brain, €100,000

Institute for Neurosurgery of Clinical Center of Serbia purchased calitron ultrasonic aspirator, which enables easier access to the tumors of spinal cord and all deeper structures of the brain.

Dr Miodrag Rakić, director of the Institute says that this machine is very precious because they used to send patients with tumor on spinal cord to international centers. Without this machine safe and quality intervention was impossible. The expenses of treatment abroad per patient amount to €30,000 - €40,000.

It is also important to mention that this machine can be applied in removal of benign head tumors that are rich with blood, because it enable removal of tumor tissue without inflicting of damage to blood vessels.

Calitron ultrasonic aspirator costs about €100,000 and money for its procurement was provided by the Ministry of Health of Serbia. Emergency Center and the First Surgical Clinic of Clinical Center of Serbia also have this machine, but its application there is different than in neurosurgery.
