Unofficially, Austrian telecommunications operator Telekom Austria has acquired the telecom firm Amis for EUR 30 million, the media in Slovenia announced.
Telekom Austria, which is majority owned by Mexico's telecom giant America Movil, already owns the second largest mobile operator in Slovenia - Si.mobil. Now, with the acquisition of Amis, whose majority owner was Belgian investment fund Amisco NV Bruxelles since 2006, Telekom Austria will make its telecommunications offer complete as a supplier of fixed broadband internet access, TV and telephony.
In this way, consolidation of the Slovenian telecommunications market will be continued. Consolidation is also taking place with the Slovenian largest cable operator Telemach, which has recently taken over the third largest mobile operator - Tusmobil, and it is also interested in the telecom firm T-2.
Telekom Slovenije, the biggest telecommunications operator in Slovenia, has recently acquired the mobile telephony service provider Debitel, and it itself is in the final phase of privatization.
The telecom firm T-2 is close to being taken over by one of the three bidders that unofficially compete for it. These prospective buyers are the US investment fund KKR, which holds a stake in Telemach Slovenia, Telekom Austria, and Cinven investment fund, a possible buyer of Telekom Slovenije.
