Preparations to start for construction of Belgrade's wastewater drainage tunnel 6.5 km long to Veliko Selo village
Once the interceptor "Ušće-Veliko Selo" is built, all of wastewater and part of precipitation will be collected and sent to wastewater treatment unit in Veliko Selo village. These waters now end in the Danube and the Sava rivers, without any previous treatment.
Company PIM Ivan Milutinović is working for a month on preparation for construction of tunnel from Veliko Selo village to Višnjica. These preparation works will last 2 months, and the value of work is 33m RSD.
Before the beginning of construction of tunnel, a landplace will be built on the armband, so that required equipment can be unloaded. PIM is also obliged to make sure that 7 km through that armband is navigable.
The Directorate for Building Land and Construction of Belgrade provided 50m EUR for this huge project. Digging of the tunnel 6.5 km long will start in 2008.
According to the information provided by Belgrade Plumbing and Sewerage Company, there are 23 big emmissions into rivers in Belgrade. Unofficially, waste matters from 116 locations are released into the Sava river, while the Danube river receives waste matters from 136 locations !
This large investment will be followed by realization of final solution, after which wastewater will not be poured out into the rivers at all. The central system will bring wastewater to the water treatment unit. Citizens of Belgrade will have to wait for that system for another 10-15 years, because this investment is worth 500m EUR.
