First international conference on computer literacy – "ECDL in Region" held in Zagreb

- On the initiative of HIZ – Croatian Informatics Council, and JISA, with the support from IT organizations from the region, representatives of associations and authorized Test centers met in Opatija in order to contribute to greater computer literacy of the citizens, improvement of quality of education and testing, as well as creation of strong base for quick moving of the region into IT society - United IT Association (JISA) announced

Significant support and directions for further work have been given to the participants in the conference by Damien O`Sullivan, Executive Manager of ECDL Foundation, Dr. Dragan Švarc, assistant to the Minister of IT society – Ministry of Science, Education and Sport of Republic of Croatia, and Zvonimir Stanić, Manager of Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARDNet.

According to the announcement of JISA, after presentation of the results achieved in the countries of the region, it can be clearly seen that our region is much below European average, as far as investments in computer education of citizens, computer literacy and level of development of IT society are concerned.

Creation of good base, through increase in level of computer literacy of citizens, for development of electronic operations is the common goal of all participants in the conference.
