Belgrade to get new port at Pupin's bridge - Construction could start in late 2017
Partner of the country in new port construction could be Chinese company China Environmental Energy Holding and based on Memorandum on cooperation signed in April 2015.
The Ministry of construction has recently made Decision on Environmental Impact Assessment development of Spatial plan of special purpose area of new port in Belgrade with a free zone.
- In order to build a new port in Belgrade, it is first necessary to, in line with signed Memorandum of understanding signed between Republic of Serbia and China Environmental Energy Holding, adopt Feasibility study for new port construction in Belgrade which should provide general overview of necessary works and costs of new port construction. After adoption of the Study, Spatial plan of the special purpose area for new port in Belgrade will start followed by adoption of Regulation on defining port area in Belgrade – the Ministry says.
Parallel with these activities, negotiations with port operators interested in getting port concession and development of necessary technical documentation for construction, i.e. obtaining port concession will go on.
- During 2016, development of Spatial plan of the area of special purpose for new port in Belgrade was planned and the start of development of technical documentation. In case of successful negotiations with potential investors and assigning port concession, construction could start in Q3 2017 or early construction season in 2018.
According to preliminary solutions for the needs of new port in Belgrade, 300 ha were planned.
Serbia on the "road of silk"
Founder of China Environmental Energy Holdings, Billy Ngok signed last year with the minister of construction, traffic and infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlovic, Memorandum of understanding and cooperation.
Memorandum implies mutual work on the project of construction and usage of port at the Pupin’s bridge, on the left bank of the Danube, starting from mutual development of feasibility stdy for the project. In case Feasibility Study turns out to be a success, two sides will consider methods for further cooperation on implementation of the project: design, construction, equipping and port exploitation, using the funding model.
This Memorandum is within mutual activities of companies from two countries on implementation of Chinese interest on so-called economic line of ground part of “silk road”.
Intermodal center in Batajnica
On the other side of the bridge in Batajnica, this year, construction of the first intermodal terminal with logistic center could start. According to the Detailed Regulation plan, intermodal terminal and logistics center will extend on 63 ha and there railway and road traffic will met in order to transport containers. As it was said, estimated investment totals app. EUR 15,5 m and it takes also app. EUR 4 for land expropriation.
