Penguins are coming to Belgrade zoo - Take a look at future annex to Good Hope garden
In order to see penguins, soon you will no longer have to leave Serbia. Namely, these grounded birds are coming to the Belgrade zoo. As announced, the Good Hope garden is going to obtain a penguinarium, "Bird Town" and bilingual signboards.
- Construction of the facility to accommodate penguins is in the initial phase, but if everything goes as planned, it should be finished and ready for animals as early as this year - the Belgrade zoo officials told eKapija.
This long-awaited home for penguins will be situated across the road from the area where giraffes live.
- The project is valued at EUR 250,000. Penguins are going to have a swimming pool with special filters, so the water in it won't have to be changed that often. For example, such filters exist in the Vienna zoo's pool for seals, where water is changed once a year.
(a cage for birds of prey)
By the way, the Belgrade zoo used to have penguins about 20 years ago, who were then kept in the area where seals live now.
As announced by Belgrade Zoo Acting General Manager Srboljub Aleksic, "penguins will be a gift from our friends from the Szeged zoo were they are successfully reproduced".
A cage for big birds
As part of the renovation of the Belgrade zoo, a cage for big birds of prey is under construction as the old one is out of use for quite some time now.
- Work on the cages for big birds commenced back in 2013, and we hope to have them finished by the end of this year - the zoo officials explained to eKapija.
The idea is to group big birds like eagles, condors and hawks in one place in "Bird Town". They have already procured the material necessary to resume the regeneration of the "town" for big birds. Also, all paths within the zoo are going to be paved with decorative panels.
Tickets
- The zoo attendance is pretty good, but we work every year on something new to increase the number of visitors - our interlocutors say and stress that the price of tickets will remain the same this year.
Tickets for adults (those older than 15) cost RSD 400, while the price for children aged 3 to 15 is RSD 300.
