New minister of traffic in Croatia, Oleg Butkovic, announced the option of implementation of vignettes in Croatia and added the objective of the Government is to implement contact-free payment at highways.

- Before final decision, we have to examine studies and projects required and it will have to wait for 10 days - he said but he did not want to comment statements on vignettes.

He added, however, they will make sure vignette price is line with standard of Croatian citizens.

Professor Ivan Dadic says it is necessary to introduce vignettes so that turnover at highways would increase and explains it will result in GDP increase of 1% for the fact it will facilitate access to logistic infrastructure along the highways.

According to Dadic, in Croatia, 10-day vignette for personal vehicles should not exceed EUR 15 EUR (112 KN), monthly EUR 50 (375 KN), and annual EUR 150 (1.125 KN).

This means a 10-day vignette would cost less than current price of one ride between Zagreb and Split (KN 174). Monthly one would cost as much as a ride from Zagreb to Split and back.
