Americans to sell Old Forge in Smederevo

Old Forge, which had been operating within "U.S. Steel Srbija" prior to August 2006, should be sold to company "Utva-Milan Premasunac" from Kačarevo soon. After the expiration of condition from the sales contract for former "Sartid", Americans practically turned off Old Forge through program for surplus manpower and then, with certain severance pays, more than 480 workers left the factory.

Future owners from Kačarevo, of which company produces metal spare parts and deals with metal processing, will settle the entire factory on the space of Old Forge, together with the equipment that is pretty old.

Negotiations with Americans are in the final phase and selling price is something that none of the contracted parties wanted to discuss before the official contract is signed. People from the PR sector of "U.S. Steel" said that "anything in connection with Old Forge can not be revealed" and they were not familiar with that story until the deal is done.

"Utva" found its interest in the purchase of this factory in production of its own castings that are the basic parts of every mechanical processing and spare parts. That process will be carried out in current Old Forge with the existing equipment.
