Farewell to Benston, York, Ronhill - BAT to discontinue TDR brands after takeover

Although it promised to maintain the production in Kanfanara for five years following the takeover, posting a EUR 50 million bid bond to guarantee that factory would not be closed prematurely, British American Tobacco (BAT) was obviously not obliged to keep traditional brands of Tvornica duhana Rovinj (Rovinj Tobacco Factory - TDR) after taking it over in 2015 for half a billion euro.

The world's second largest cigarette maker has already replaced 'Benston' with 'Rothmans', and if speculations that even the best-selling brands 'York' and 'Ronhill' will be discontinued turn out to be true, it will also be confirmed that the takeover has helped BAT achieve its main goal: acquisition of TDR's markets.
Regional media write that 'York' is going to become 'Pall Mall', 'Ronhill' - 'Dunhill', while the replacement of 'Walter Wolf' with 'Lucky Strike' is expected to be the most problematic.
