Serbia obtains Green Fund for environmental projects in January 2017
Amendments to the Environmental Protection Law have created a legal basis for establishing the Green Fund of Serbia that will become operational on 1 January 2017, as a body within the Environmental Ministry.
As the Ministry of Agriculture announced, the Green Fund will be formed as a budgetary fund serving to finance the preparations, implementation and development of programs, projects and other activities in the field of preservation, sustainable use, protection and improvement of the environment.
Agriculture and Environmental Protection Minister Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic says that the adoption of law was only the first first step towards the establishment of the Green Fund, which should be completely formed by the year's end, in coordination with the Finance Ministry, and have a capacity to allow for more efficient implementation of infrastructure projects.
She presented the progress in the implementation of investments in the environment sector at a meeting of the National Investment Board.
This meeting was attended by Jadranka Joksimovic, the minister without portfolio responsible for the European integration of Serbia and the national IPA coordinator, Finance Minister Dusan Vujovic, and Michael Davenport, the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, as well as the representatives of relevant ministries, the European Commission, embassies and international finance institutions.
