Mineco and its partners have been conducting lead and zinc exploration in the territory of the Bosilegrad municipality since 2010. Initial researches showed there was enough ore to open the Bosil-Metal Mine, which will be one of the leading lead and zinc mines in Serbia.
If everything goes as planned, this mine should be opened in 2018. Mineco has so far invested about USD 11 million in Bosil-Metal, while additional 12 to 15 million US dollars are required for the completion of all facilities, machinery and infrastructure. The plan for this year alone is to invest about USD 1.5 million in the project.
Aside from the announced new mine near Bosilegrad, this British company and its partners already manage the Serbian lead and zinc mines Veliki Majdan near Ljubovija and ROC Rudnik near Gornji Milanovic, as well as Sase in Srebrenica, the Republic of Srpska. Mineco employs about 800 people in Serbia and about 1,400 people in the region, whereas the opening of new mines in Olovo and Bosilegrad in Serbia create jobs for another 400 to 500 workers.
