A tendering process for the main contractor to build the first IKEA department store in Serbia, with all the accompanying infrastructure, is finished, and the bid submitted by Strabag is selected as the best.
Strabag will commence works on the Bubanj Potok site within the next few weeks, and all the work is expected to be completed by summer 2017.
- End of the tendering process for the main contractor is a very important moment for us because we are now one more step closer to the opening of the first IKEA department store in Serbia. We already had a successful cooperation with Strabag in the construction of department stores across Europe and the region, and we are sure that the construction of department store in Belgrade will also be a success and that this new IKEA facility will serve as a model for innovations in the field of construction and operations in line with the principles of sustainable development.
- Strabag has also won the Serbian government's tender for the relocation of toll gate in Bubanj Potok, which is a very significant precondition for enabling an unrestricted access to the future department store, and we are glad to have them as our partner in the improvement of the infrastructure and the development of Bubanj Potok - said Vladislav Lalic, the regional development director at IKEA Southeast Europe.
IKEA is going to invest EUR 70 million in the construction of department store that will have a surface area of over 30,000 square meters and employ 300 people.
