There is room for even better economic cooperation between Serbia and Canada, assessed Monday (May 9, 2016) President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Marko Čadež, saying that this country’s investors are mostly interested in the Serbian mining, energy and agriculture sectors, while our country’s biggest trump card for exports to the Canadian market are agricultural and IT products and services.

Following the opening of the Ivey Business School’s Leader Project 2016 educational program organized by the Canadian Serbian Business Association, CANSEE, the PKS and the Canadian Embassy, Čadež said that each time a forum was organized by the two countries a good business deal was made thus that he hoped that this project too would boost cooperation and strengthen ties between the two countries.

Canadian Ambassador to Belgrade Philip Pinnington pointed to the great possibilities of boosting economic cooperation in different areas.

Commenting on the Leader Project, he said that it was extremely useful for entrepreneurs and that it offers them a chance to improve their business operations and connect with business partners. Čadež said that a project of this kind, backed by the PKS, is an example of ways in which local entrepreneurs can be supported this calendar year proclaimed as the Year of Entrepreneurship, and that support does not necessarily have to be only financial.

The main aim of different business education programs is to offer entrepreneurs additional values so they could improve their business performance, develop new business ideas and establish new forms of cooperation, said Čadež also noting the possibility of networking that would not only involve the attendants but also the establishing of contacts with representatives of companies that they will visit or get to know in the course of their training.

CANSEE Executive Director Mirjana Dončić-Beaton said that the main idea of the project is to assemble a larger group of entrepreneurs over the next few years of the program’s implementation in Serbia whose newly gained knowledge and contacts will facilitate greater competitiveness of the Serbian economy.

- The project has assembled 30 attendants and we expect even more next year. All those interested can find information about this program on our website – she said, inviting entrepreneurs to join the program.

There are over 50 Canadian companies operating in Serbia, while some of them are among the most important investors in the field of mining.

Over the past few years Canadian investors invested in the agriculture and energy sectors.
