(Miodrag Kostić) We want to become the owners of Slovenia's Gorenjska banka. We have the funds required but everything else depends on regulations, said MK Group President Miodrag Kostić after attending the 33rd finance conference in Portorož, titled "New Banking and Financial Times. How to Put the Flood of Money into Dry Wallets."
During the two-day expert conference, Kostić took part in a panel titled "Banks in the Region - Progress and Opportunities", presenting his positions on possibilities for regional development and growth to representatives of the Appolo fund, Abank and Unicredit Bank. The organisers of the conference on finance, which every year attracts over 300 participants and experts on finance, banking and stockmarket operations from the entire region, are the Ljubljana Stock Exchange and the Finance business daily.
In a statement to Finance, Kostić noted that he sees a consolidation of the Slovenian banking system that would involve no more than seven banks.
AIK banka, which operates as part of MK Group, has recently acquired a 13.8 % stake in Slovenia's Gorenjska banka with a view to continuing investments in the sector in the coming period. In addition, the Serbian company is the owner of the prestigious Kempinski Palace hotel, strengthening further the Slovenian - Serbian cooperation in tourism and the hotel industry.
The development of the MK Group has been on an upward trajectory over the past thirty years, which is also the course the system will maintain, with organic growth and the good results that all companies within the system are achieving while providing a livelihood to around five thousand employees.
