The European Union has banned the import of beef and meat products from the Pcinja district, whereas the import from the rest of Serbia remains uninterrupted, said the Veterinary Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture for Tanjug.

The damage to the state budget due to the lumpy skin disease cannot yet be estimated, as the infection is ongoing, the Directorate points out.

The written statement says that the EU has banned the import from the restricted zone, Pcinja, in accordance with the regulations. Treated cattle hides coming from outside the Pcinja district may be imported to the EU.

The restrictions of the import to any state, related to the lumpy skin disease, pertain exclusively to cattle, buffalos, wild ruminants and the related products, explains the Ministry.

The import of live cattle, meat and milk from Serbia was banned by the countries of the region as well, following the outbreak of the infectious disease nodular dermatitis.

The Veterinary Directorate has pronounced the Vranje area to be endangered due to the cow disease, as Vranje borders the municipalities in which the outbreak happened, stated the head of the Emergency Authority at Vranje Dragan Tasic.
