Feasibility study on the Nis water treatment facility presented

A feasibility study on the project of the facility for collecting and purifying waste water has been presented in Nis. The study should enable the city to receive grants for the construction of the waste water treatment facility and the sewer system through the EU’s Instrument for Pre-accession assistance, IPA 2017.

If it receives the support for financing through IPA 2017, the project will become the largest environmental protection infrastructural facility financed by the EU’s pre-accession funds.

– Thanks to the cooperation between the Government of Serbia and the city of Nis, with the help of the European Union, the largest environmental protection infrastructural project in the pre-accession period will be carried out in Nis. The value of the waste water treatment facility with the construction and reconstruction of the sewer system far exceed anything that’s been financed so far, and the Government of Serbia will procure the assets from the EU’s pre-accession funds – pointed out Stana Bozovic, the state secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.

The project of collecting and purifying waste water entails building new collectors, repairing a part of the existing ones and building a facility for waste water treatment as well as additional sludge treatment.

The entire technical documentation of the project will be financed by the new assistance program of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency for the environmental protection sector in Serbia, called Priority Environmental Infrastructure for Development (PEID), which begins on July 25, 2016, and is worth nearly EUR 3 million.
