The American software giant Microsoft has announced that it will cancel an additional 2,850 job positions in the next 12 months, as reported by Reuters. This will increase the number of job positions which the company intends to cancel to 4,700, which amounts to 4% of the total number of employees at Microsoft.
Microsoft announced this May that it would cancel 1,850 job positions in its smartphone department, most of which were in Finland.
In 2014, Microsoft acquired the Finnish Nokia in an attempt to compete with Apple and Samsung. Since then, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, has been focusing on restructuring the declining mobile devices operations.
Microsoft had 114,000 full-time employees until June 30, the British news agency reports.
