These are Serbia’s fourth Olympics under that name. It all started in Stockholm in 1912, and Serbia appeared again as an independent state in Beijing in 2008, following decades of participation as part of Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro.
Serbia’s most promising athletes in Rio certainly include the world’s best tennis player, Novak Djokovic, followed by the water polo team, the athlete Ivana Spanovic, kayakers Marko Novakovic and Nebojsa Grujic, wrestler Davor Stefanek, shooters headed by Ivana Maksimovic and Andrea Arsovic, women’s and men’s basketball teams...
