Consumers believe that companies introduce new smartphone models too often, a Greenpeace survey reveals. More than half of those surveyed in five countries want to be able to buy phones much less frequently than they do now.

Leading companies Apple and Samsung launch new smart devices each year, equipped with the latest technology and increasingly advanced screens. Very often, phone companies merely upgrade their less expensive products.

Consumers believe that some of the new models are built to last for only a year, the survey shows. In fact, most buyers want the ability to open, repair and recycle their phones more easily.

Most of those surveyed believe that leading producers need to be more environmentally conscious. According to them, battery life is an important factor in purchasing a phone.

Nearly 90% of those surveyed in China, Mexico and South Korea want easily repairable phones which don’t contain harmful chemicals.
