Minister of Economy Goran Knezevic said that the last obstacle for duty-free export of Fiat to Eurasia had been removed, as the Kazakh minister of national economy, Kuandyk Bishimbayev, promised at today's meeting that the country would vote in favor of the option at the next Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
Knezevic said that, as far as the Serbian side was concerned, everything had been settled a long time ago.
– We waited for all the obstacles to be removed, and Minister Bishimbayev promised that Kazakhstan would support the issue at the Council. Once the Council reaches the decision, all that remains are technical questions and conditions. But I believe that the last obstacle has been removed and that the export of Fiat to these countries is now possible – Knezevic said.
Responding to the journalists' comments that it was precisely Kazakhstan that was against duty-free export of Fiat until now, protecting its production that way, Bishimbayev said that Fiat was not their direct competition.
– We have recorded a growth of the automotive industry and production in Kazakhstan lately, but after the Serbian side addressed us, we considered their request. Your automobiles are not in direct competition with our production, so we've decided to support free export, that is, the export to our region – he said.
According to him, as the final decision will be made at the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Kazakhstan will support the proposal there.
