Mining Smelter Basin "Bor" sold to Austrian company "A-Tech"

The contract has been signed on sale of Mining Smelter Basin (RTB) Bor to Austrian consortium "A - tech-Briksleg". The Government has made this decision at the phone meeting.

Austrian A - Tech has won on the tender for sale of property of RTB Bor and transfer of exploitation rights by offering 466m USD and investments worth 180m USD, which were increased to 230m USD during the negotiations.

Major part will be invested in modernization of smeltery, so that it would be able to produce 300-400,000 tons of copper concentrate on annual basis. Total of 131m USD will be invested in smeltery and refinery, 67.5m USD in copper mine Bor, and 31.5m USD in copper mine in Majdanpek. The buyer obliged to introduce ecological standards that are in accordance with those in effect in Serbia within next four years. His obligation is not to dismiss any of 4,691 workers in RTB within next three years.


Minister of Economy and Regional Development, Mlađan Dinkić, said that the privatization of RTB and modernization of production would guarantee jobs for 5,000 workers in that company. People from the TRade Union of RTB claim, however, that the workers have not been informed on the details of the social program.
