Foundation stone laid down for textile factory in Draganic – Investment worth EUR 9 million a gift from Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation

In Draganici, the municipality of Raska, the founding stone for a textile factory was laid down on Thursday, September 1. The facility should have 11,500 m2 of area and is worth EUR 9 million. It is a gift from the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation. As planned, the production facility itself will have 6.200 m2 of area and it has been planned for around 400 workers.

It will contain storage space, an administrative and a technical block, and it has been designed in line with the highest European standards, honoring the principles of energy efficiency and using renewable energy sources.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said that the factory was being built in line with the same principles as the one in Smederevo, where, as he reminded, 1,200 people work currently, and the number should soon increase to 2,000.

– Serbian companies will be employed on its construction, and the investor from the United Arab Emirates will supervise the works – Vucic said.

He added that the people of Raska will witness something as yet unseen in Serbia. - Get used to it. I won't lie to you by saying your lives will become easy, but you will, slowly and surely, thanks to your faith, hard work, patience and trust, start living better and the future of your children will turn brighter – Vucic said.

Raska used to be the center of the textile industry, but it deteriorated during the 1990s. The largest textile factory used to be Proleter. It used to employ 1,000 people, and now it has only around 80 employees. There haven't been any large investments in Raska in the past 30-40 years, except in small facilities.
