EAR assigned 3m EUR for construction of regional sanitation dump in Pirot - tender in mid-April

Mayor of Pirot, mr Vladan Vasić, said that the Europan Agency fo Reconstruction would approve 3m EUR for construction of regional sanitation dump in that region.

- We have got the information from Kok van Šuten, the team leader of EAR's Eptis program, that our regional dump entered their plan of activities and that they will set aside 3m EUR for that purpose. Besides, they will also finance construction of dump in Užice, 25 regional roads in Serbia, water supply system in Inđija and wastewater treatment unit in Subotica - said Vasić.

Vasić said that the international tender would be announced for that significant investment.

- The tender will be announced in mid-April, and I hope that everything will be finished by the end of August 2008 and that the construction of the dump will start at the end of August or at the beginning of September. Municipality of Pirot has bought the land for the dump, and it will also buy the land for the access road this year. Everything is ready for construction. We are waiting for the international tender that will be run by EAR to be announced. By the way, so far we have bought 10 ha and the dump is supposed to occupy 25 ha - says Vasić.

- Institute "Kirilo Savić" has elaborated the project that contains all estimates of effects on environment and the strategy for solid waste management in the region. The budget has also been made. We are thinking about introducing a strategic partner to this business, since the value of this investment exceeds 6m EUR. We put strategic partners in the backgroun when EAR expressed their interest in co-financing construction of the dump and donating 3m EUR to us. We have been waiting for almost a year for the final respond from EAR, but my opinion is that it is worth waiting - says Vasić.
