BioSense gets EUR 30 million from EU for Internet of Farming 2020 project

The Research and Development Institute for Information Technologies in Biosystems (BioSense Institute) has won EUR 30 million from the European Commission for the Internet of Farming 2020 project at a competition. The project encompasses all agrarian areas, which will, as reported, be available online with the aim of improving agricultural production by using special computer programs.

While talking about the details of the IoF2020 project, the director of BioSense, Vladimir Crnojevic, said that the adoption of the latest concept of implementing online tools in the agriculture and food sector needed to be quicker and that two European Commissions had joined forces to that end – the one for agriculture and rural development and the one for information society – and invested EUR 30 million.

The competition, as he stated, included around 500 institutions from all over Europe, but it was the BioSense project that was selected, along with the Dutch DLO Institute.

As he explained, this is one of the EC’s largest projects in the area of science and it places Serbia and Vojvodina among the leaders in the area, where an attempt to establish a new architecture of European agriculture is in progress.


BioSense will practically coordinate all the activities of 73 European institutions related to pilot websites and implement and test close to 20,000 new web tools throughout Europe, through 19 pilot projects in five areas: farming, vegetable growing, fruit growing, animal husbandry and dairy farming. The methods include: managing precision agriculture, monitoring cattle on the grazing land, remote quality control of milk, logistics in fruit growing...
