The newly built thermal power plant Stanari, in which EUR 550 million had been invested, was put into operation in the Stanari near Doboj on Tuesday, September 20.

The plant was officially put into operation by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, the president of the EFT Group, Vuk Hamovic, the president of Dongfang Electric Corporation, Xo Lei, the ambassador of China to B&H, Chen Bo and the deputy head of Great Britain's Mission to B&H, Matthew Lawson.

They also planted the first saplings in the Park of Friendship.

Dodik said that the project was the largest individual investment in B&H and pointed out that it was important for Republika Srpska that around a thousand workers would be employed there and that the plant would contribute to the energy stability of RS.

The prime minister of RS, Zeljka Cvijanovic, said that, by opening the Prnjavor-Doboj highway and putting into operation the thermal power plant Stanari, the economic situation in the entire region had changed considerably.

– It is very important for both Republika Srpska and the entire region that around a thousand workers will be employed here, with above average salaries – Cvijanovic said.

The president of EFT, Vuk Hamovic, said that the project had been completed before the deadline and that the Government of RS had fully supported the realization of the project worth EUR 550 million.

Stanari will produce two million megawatts a year, and it has been reported that its operations have been brought in line with RS environmental protection regulations and are fully in line with the EU directive for facilities with large furnaces.

Coal reserves at the Stanari mine amount to 108 million tons, which is enough for 40 years of uninterrupted operations.

EFT, the mine and the thermal power plant employ 720 workers, and it has been announced that the number will be increased to 800 by the end of the year. Also, it is expected that the total number of workers will eventually amount to around 1000.
