Telekom Srbija and Huawei switching all landline phone connections to IP – Project worth EUR 150 million

Telekom Srbija and Huawei are making a turning point in the development of telecommunications in Serbia through the All-IP transformation project.

In line with the agreement signed this June during the visit of the president of China, Xi Jinping, and a delegation of Chinese ministers and businessmen to Serbia, Telekom will start modernizing its landline telecommunications network in cooperation with Huawei.

As defined in the agreement, all landline phone connections of their clients will be switched to the IP (internet protocol) technology.

In line with the agreement, Telekom will invest up to EUR 150 million in order to provide, in cooperation with Huawei, the best quality of service to its clients, above all in the areas in landline internet and multimedia.

The project of modernizing the landline phone network will, among other things, enable many users, primarily in urban areas, to get a FTTH optical connection, where the speed can reach 1 Gbit/s. The optical system provides a guarantee for a more quality development of all future services as well, so each household will be able to enjoy the benefits of 4K video services.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said that the investment of Telekom and the Chinese company was very important for the people of Serbia, as the landline phone system would drastically improve. It is important, he says, that Telekom will be competitive in the country and the region.

Noting that Huawei is one of the leaders in the world, Vucic said that Serbia could use the company's knowledge to reach great “heights” in the region.

– It's not just the equipment, but also the works which will be performed, which means that a lot of our people will be employed – Vucic said.
