E-payment in the period from 2011 until 2015 lead to the growth of Serbia's GDP by EUR 230 million and the creation of around 3,000 new jobs, said the representative of Visa for the cooperation with the governmental sector for the regions of CIS and SEE, Irina Kamhadze.
She said that, thanks to good results, Visa strove to further improve e-payment.
Talking about the advantages of this kind of payment, Kamhadze emphasized that they were also reflected in 3.5 million owners of Visa card, who could take part in the digital economy, meaning they could pay either online or personally, in stores. Paying by card, she said, contributes to transparency of payment transactions in the country.
When asked what the projections are for the further development of the system, Kamhadze said that payments by card in Serbia amounted to 30%, the rest being payments in cash. This means, she explained, that there's still plenty room for innovations in the payment system and that those innovation might be an opportunity to redirect the amounts “remaining in cash”.
E-payment in Serbia is, according to her, twice as big as last year, which means, as she said, that people are beginning to actively pay by card, feeling more secure and trustful of the brand, using Visa cards for payments.
