Atelje 212 marks anniversary with “Children of Joy”

By premiering the play “Children of Joy” by Milena Markovic, directed by Snezana Trisic, Atelje 212 celebrated 60 years of work on Sunday, November 12.

The audience welcomed the actors and Markovic with a thunderous applause. The jubilee was attended by the entire staff of the theater and many retired actors.

The play “Children of Joy” starts with a meeting between two mothers at the graves of their sons, The Poet and The Warrior, who lost their lives during the 1990s, incapable of escaping their parents’ influence and growing up. The director sees the play as a rock’n’roll requiem and has set it as an epic on personal and collective suffering.

Through the turning points in lives of five young people eventually dying of heroin, the play examines the ideological context and the concept of the establishment and the breakup of Yugoslavia, the advent of rock’n’roll in Serbia, the wars of the 1990s and the “new age” we’re living in.

The cast consists of Filip Hajdukovic, Gorica Popovic, Nenad Ciric, Marko Gvero, Milica Mihajlovic, Miodrag Krstovic, Radmila Tomovic, Marko Grabez, Jovana Gavrilovic, Bojan Zirovic, Milica Trifunovic, Isidora Minic, Vladislav Mihailovic, Katarina Zutic and Miodrag Dragicevic.

Other members of the crew include Darko Nedeljkovic, stage designer, Maja Mirkovic, costume designer, Irena Popovic composer, and Bojana Robinson, choreographer.
