Constantine the Great Airport transports record-setting 124,877 passengers in 2016 – Cargo transport exceeds all previous results

The Constantine the Great Airport made record-setting results at the end of 2016 regarding the number of passengers transported and the amount of transported goods, reports the FlyFromNis portal.

The last year will be remembered for its historical six-digit result of 124,877 passengers, which hasn’t been recorded since 1986, when the airport officially opened. A new record was set after six years in the cargo transport as well, amounting to 1,970 tons, as opposed to the previous one of 1,550 tons.

The director of the Constantine the Great Airport, Vladica Djurdjanovic, stated that they would exceed the number of 300,000 transported passengers in 2017 and that he expected that more than 3,000 tons of cargo would be transported.

– The results in 2017 are what’s most important to us. We will surely have more than 300,000 passengers, as SWISS and Germania Flug are beginning to fly to Zurich. Nis has been selected thanks to the area it services, primarily the south of Serbia and Kosovo and Metohija. We expect that more than 3,000 tons of goods will be transported this year, thanks to regular cargo flights of Turkish Cargo to Istanbul – Djurdjanovic said.

Flights from Nis, according to estimates by the airport’s management and airline companies, are around 90% full.

As FlyFromNis reports, the Nis Airport provides flights to 9 destinations throughout Europe by airplanes of two low cost companies, Ryanair and Wizz Air. The Swiss airline companies SWISS and Germania will start flying from Nis to Zurich on April 2 and June 23 repectively.
