Nenad Zimonjic new Serbian tennis selector

The Tennis Federation of Serbia (TFS) has appointed Nenad Zimonjic as the selector of the Davis Cup team in place of Bogdan Obradovic, who has performed the function in the past nine years.

– Taking into consideration that Bogdan Obradovic's mandate expires on January 21, the Management Board of the Tennis Federation of Serbia has decided to appoint Nenad Zimonjic, member of the national team for many years, to perform the function of the selector of the Davis Cup national team. At the same session, the Management Board of TFS reached the decision, in line with its acts, on opening a contest for the selector of the Davis Cup national team of Serbia – says the TFS press release.

Zimonjic is still an active player. It is not yet known for how long he will be performing the function.

– I believe that the good tradition will continue with Nenad Zimonjic as the head of Serbia's Davis Cup national team and that this will freshen up the team of young players, who can benefit from Zimonjic's experience at the Davis Cup and ATP tournaments, stimulating them to follow in their older colleagues footsteps – the press release says.

TFS thanked Obradovic for his “fruitful and successful” work, which was crowned with Serbia's winning the Davis Cup in 2010.

Zimonjic holds the record for the most games played for the Serbian national team, with 69 games and 41 victories.

Nenad Zimonjic has already been the selector-player for Serbia and Montenegro twice, in 2003 and 2004, and his new debut in this position will be made against Russia, on February 3-5 in Nis.

Zimonjic was born in 1976 and is considered one of the best doubles players in the world, with 53 titles won.
