State and pharmacists to discuss public debts of state pharmacies on January 23 – Total liabilities RSD 11 billion, monthly interest rates RSD 250 million

Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Ana Brnabic stated today that a meeting with pharmacies and 25 local self-governments will be held on January 23, in order to find the solution for debts of RSD 11 billion.

She said that the Government of Serbia's position on the problem should be defined on Monday, January 16, so that recommendations regarding the course of action could be given to the municipalities at the upcoming meeting.

– The monthly interest is RSD 250 million and this is a huge problem, which hasn't been solved in Serbia for more than 15 years – she said and added that she expected that a write-off of a part of debts would be agreed in the talks with creditors and wholesale pharmacies.

– In cooperation with the ministries of health, finance, economy and the National Health insurance Fund, we are considering the best course of action for local self-governments to repay the debt – she said.

She emphasized that local self-governments were the founders of those pharmacies, and that it was important to the Government of Serbia for the pharmacy network to survive, for the debts to be covered and for there to be no shortages of pharmaceutical drugs.

– We will implement a strict control of pharmaceutical institutions and local self-governments so that the problem doesn't reappear in the future – she said.

The Sabac Pharmacy today published the third ad for leasing its business premises, in an effort, as recently said by Mayor Nebojsa Zelenovic, to secure money for the repayment of debts.
