Djerdap world’s fourth most beautiful gorge

With all the various tourist offers, including beaches, top quality hotels and exploratory tours, the website Virtual Tourist has nevertheless made a list of the ten most beautiful gorges in the world.

It the fourth place is the Djerdap gorge, a natural cut of the might Danube in Serbia, described as offering excellent mounting-climbing features.

The website provided a short description, saying that the Djerdap gorge stretches for 100 km along the Danube and that it is surrounded by forests.

The top spot on the list belongs to Turkey’s Saklikent Gorge, 50 km away from the city of Fethiye. Nearly 18 km long and up to 300 m deep in places, the gorge is one the longest and deepest ones in the world. It is only open for visits in summer.

Next on the list is Hancock Gorge in the Karajini National Park, Australia. This Western Australian gorge features copper-red slopes and is often described as a photographers’ dream.


One spot above the Djerdap gorge is Ausable Chasm, located in the US state of New York, which has been open for visitors since 1870. It provides active holiday features and visitors can enjoy the view from a hanging bridge.

The list also features gorges in France, China, Japan, Spain and Slovenia.
