Monica Bellucci opens 45th FEST

Italian actress Monica Bellucci raised the curtain in Belgrade’s Sava Centar on Friday 24, 2017, marking the beginning of the 45th International Film Festival FEST, which will last through March 5.

– Dear Belgrade, the festival is open – Bellucci said and added that it had been an honor to her to visit Serbia several times and work with Emir Kusturica.

She added that being in Serbia was a great and remarkable experience for her.

Actor Ljubisa Samardzic was awarded the Belgrade Victor award at the opening of the festival for his remarkable contribution to film, although he was unable to attend due to his ill health. The same award was handed to Carlos Saura for his life’s work.

Following the opening ceremony, Emir Kusturica’s latest movie, On the Milky Road, was screened.

The artistic director of FEST, Jugoslav Pantelic, said that the audience will be shown 15 films from 12 countries within the main program, made by authors such as Haim Tabakman, Argyris Papadimitropoulos, Giuseppe Piccioni, Kirill Serebrennikov, Nevio Marasovic, Pavel Lungin, Hana Jusic, Damjan Kozole and others.

A total of 95 films will premiere at the festival, and the audience will be able to see the best films from the world festivals and nearly all Oscar favorites, whereas Martin Scorsese’s Silence at the closing of the festival.

Around 40 famous filmmakers will visit Belgrade during FEST, and the films are expected to draw in around 100,000 viewers.
