The complex has 53 hectares and 43 ares of agricultural land in the cadastre municipality of Banatski Despotovac, at the entrance to the village. The construction of a farm with the capacity of 70,000 pigs a year is planned. Its facilities should take up 23 hectares and 89 ares, whereas the rest would remain designated as agricultural land.
The plan was prepared at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Environmental Protection of November 1, 2016.
No detailed explanation has been given, but it’s been speculated from the start that the farm might be the first facility of the German company Tonnies in Serbia.
Tonnies started its project in Serbia in 2014, when it announced the raising of 20 pig farms featuring the latest technology, each with the capacity of 2,500 sows and 65,000 fatlings. The arrival of Tonnies has been indirectly confirmed by Mayor of Zrenjanin Cedomir Janjic.
– I expect an investment over EUR 22 million. The German investor plans to hire subcontractors as well, which is good news for our producers – Janjic previously said.
Companies:
Grad Zrenjanin
Ministarstvo poljoprivrede, šumarstva i vodoprivrede Republike Srbije
