(Zorana Mihajlovic) The planning documentation for the 77-km highway from Nis to Merdare will be completed by this summer, and the construction works might start as soon as next year, stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic on Friday, March 17, 2017.
When asked by the press which works can be expected after the Sarajevo summit on infrastructural regional projects, Mihajlovic said that the Nis-Pristina highway was certain to be built, as well as that Serbia wanted to build the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway as well.
– The planning-technical documentation is to be completed this summer, financed by the European Western Balkans Fund. I believe that representatives of the EU governments will discuss the manner of financing the project this year in Trieste – Mihajlovic said.
She said that Serbia would quickly complete the expropriation of land and that, if the documentation was completed in mid-2017 and Serbia entered the financing models, the construction might begin in 2018.
– There will also be negotiations about the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway, and we are prepared for it, but an agreement about the route needs to be reached within Bosnia and Herzegovina – Mihajlovic said.
She said that Serbia was working on connecting with Bulgaria and Greece by road corridors and railways.
– The railway corridor from Greece to Budapest is very important to us. We are in the central position and we are aware that the stability of the entire region depends on such connections and we are dedicated to it – Mihajlovic emphasized.
