The mayors of nine municipalities of Slovenia visited Valjevo, among other towns, during their two-day visit to Serbia. After talking to the city authorities, they attended the opening of the Fruit Fair, the official site of Valjevo reports.

The Slovenian delegation included representatives of the Association of Municipalities and Towns of Slovenia (SOS) from Velenje, Crnomelj, Podcetrtek, Vodice, Race-Fram, Dobrovnik, Vuzenica, Slovenj Gradec and Slovenske Konjice.

– Velenje has been successfully cooperating for years with Valjevo, where our Gorenje operates, but I remind that agriculture is equally as important to the state and the citizens in our region as well. Although local self-governments in both states face similar problems, such as the the way of financing and decentralization, fairs such as this one promote local products, which is the most important thing – pointed out the mayor of Velenje and the president of SOS, Bojan Kontic.

Mayor of Valjevo Slobodan Gvozdenovic introduced the guests from Slovenia to Valjevo's economic potentials and possibilities of cooperation. Mayor Gvozdenovic initiated on the occasion the mediation by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities between the local self-governments of the Kolubara District and the towns and municipalities of Slovenia, so that they would establish cooperation as well, like Valjevo and Velenje.

The City of Valjevo already has a developed cooperation with Velenje and other towns in Slovenia, and the expectations are for the cooperation to deepen, pointed out Dragan Jeremic, Deputy Mayor.

– There are lots of positive things in Slovenia which might be implemented here and we will make efforts to do so. I'm glad that the guests are attending the first Fruit Fair in our town. The idea is for this to be a fair for fruit growers to acquire basic knowledge, and not to act as an exhibit. We've organized a number of round tables within the fair, concerning quality plots and the material which should be used in our farms in near future, as well as about how to acquire raw materials, that is, how to grow fruit on as much land as possible. We are talking, above all, about plums, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries – he added.
