The Italian company Pasubio is to open a factory in Šabac, where it will engage 500 staff to make leather seats for luxury cars. It will supply clients such as Lamborghini, Porsche, Jaguar, Ferrari, BMW and Bentley.

Pasubio has signed a contract with Alliance One Tobacco to purchase a hall of 5,000 square metres in Šabac to start work, according to Šabac city web site.

Established in 1955, this small company belonging to the Italian Preto family is today a key player on the international leather treatment market. Until now their production has been only in Italy, but in Šabac, their first production location outside their own country, they will immediately employ 200, and over the next three years another 300 staff.

Luka Preto, owner of Pasubio, says that they scoured the whole of Serbia for the ideal spot for their investment, finding Šabac the best choice due to its geographical position and suitable halls.

“We plan to start production in June, and we shall employ mostly women who know how to cut and sew leather”, says Preto. “We expect good cooperation with the Šabac city administration, as it has been until now with no administrative impediments, so we can start work on schedule. Our clients show how serious our company is: Lamborghini, Porsche, Jaguar, Ferrari, BMW and Bentley.”

Šabac mayor Nebojša Zelenović says that the arrival of a company that works with such giants of the automobile industry is a good recommendation to all prospective investors that Šabac is a good place for investment.

“We will continue to fulfil our pledges on new jobs”, says the mayor. “As you know, the Japanese company Yazaki arrived, and today we can officially announce that Pasubio will employ 500. Little by little we are completely changing the business environment in our town. This is an important step today, as we have proved that we are a cost-effective business environment for serious European companies. Šabac holds a certificate as a business-friendly environment, and we are proving its value from day to day.”

He also mentions that Šabac will “as far as we can see be looking for more workers. In the north-west business zone there are five factories being built that will provide 1,900 jobs. The largest is the Japanese company Yazaki that will employ 1,700. Šabac is negotiating with another 11 investors with a possible further 1,800 jobs.”
