Although Serbia has been trying, without success, to sell these factories for several years, and although numerous investors have already looked into the companies' operations, this is the final attempt to sell the facilities, or otherwise close them down. The “final invitation” has already been answered by a Czech investment fund, whose representatives have visited Petrohemija and met with the company's management.
As President Tomislav Nikolic noted during his last week's visit to China, several companies from the country are also interested.
As Novosti learns, two companies have visited Kikinda in order to take a look at MSK, and, as they said at the union, they've inquired into the technical potentials of the facilities the most.
Regarding Azotara, investors from more than five countries have expressed interest in some form of investment since the beginning of the year, the company claims.
– The invitation has only just been opened, but companies from India, Hungary, Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan expressed their interest before – says Mile Bosnic, PR Manager of Azotara.
– I believe that the letters containing concrete conditions will arrive in late April.
Azotara employees have had their salaries cut by 25% due to the lack of money in the factory.
The majority owner of Petrohemija is the Republic of Serbia (53.7%), whereas Srbijagas owns 13.9% of the company's capital. Srbijagas has a much larger share in MSK (71.86%) and Azotara (85.06%). it is therefore presumed that Srbijagas will be involved in the process of deciding on the interested investors, although the Ministry of Economy is in charge of giving the final rating and proposing the privatization model.
