Reconstruction of sports and recreation center Kosutnjak in 2018 – Hall and indoor pool to be built

(Conceptual design of SRC Kosutnjak) The reconstruction of the sports and recreation center Kosutnjak, the conceptual design for which was prepared in June 2016, should start in 2018. According to the information by the Serbian Institute of Sport and Sports Medicine, which is one of the investors, the structural design and the cost estimate are currently being prepared, and the plan is for this phase to be completed in December.

The General Regulation Plan of Kosutnjak, adopted at a City Assembly session in 2014, envisages the development of the Institute to the end of turning it into a top sports zone. In line with this, the conceptual design for the adaptation of the facility was prepared in June 2016, so as to adhere to all the standards of international tournaments.

The urban plan envisages the construction of a new multifunctional hall with 10,000 square meters, and indoor Olympic pool with 5,000 square meters, as well as an athletics stadium with six lanes.

– The construction of a big and modern center such as this, which is to be built in line with international standards, requires a lot of money, as well as time, in order to secure the necessary building documentation – says Goran Bojovic, director of the Serbian Institute of Sport and Sports Medicine.

– If everything goes according to plan, the preparations should be completed by the end of the year.

Furthermore, the plan is to expand the accommodation capacities to 3,500 square meters as well, in order to improve the conditions for athletes' stay in the complex. The head office building and the sports medicine and psychology lab, which is to be expanded by 2,000 square meters, will also get a new look.

– We don't have projections as to how much the construction of the entire complex might cost, and we are preparing an estimate of the costs for now – Bojovic says.

– The Institute and the Ministry of Youth and Sports will secure the funds as soon as the structural design is completed. We don't know if there will be enough money for everything to be done in one piece, and the works are most probably to be carried out in stages.
