Belgrade to get 113 trams from Switzerland

The capital of Serbia will get 113 trams with trailers in the first week of May, through the Trams for Belgrade project, thanks to the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), Danas reports.

– People in Belgrade will be able to use these trams for the next three years, and, if they are maintained properly, probably even longer – explained Barbara Schüpbach-Guggenbühl, Secretary General of the Canton of Basel-Stadt.

She added that they had found a complete and motivated partner in GSP Belgrade, which is one of the key requirements for the success of the whole project.

– Also, we’ve carried out the revision, overhaul and technical adaptation of trams. The latest tram shipment was co-financed by GSP Belgrade, and it included the transport of 10 trailers and spare parts – said Schüpbach-Guggenbühl.

The entire project was financed by SECO, and the budget from 2001 till 2016 amounted to CHF 4.5 million. The financing encompassed the transport of trams and the accompanying technical support. The support, for example, meant that GSP employees were sent to Basel for tram maintenance training in two six-week programs.
