The CVC Capital Partners fund is interested in acquiring Mercator, the regional media report, regarding the announcements that the biggest Slovenian store chain might soon be put up for sale.

The name of this fund has been mentioned in relation to the purchase of Mercator for almost a whole decade. The fund has a portfolio worth USD 71 billion, which includes nearly 50 big companies from throughout the world.

CVC says that they are not a conventional hedge fund, but that they act as long-term property managers – their investors must tie their capital for at least ten years. The profit is paid out only after the investments are sold.

Mercator had losses of EUR 9.77 million in 2016, and its sales revenues amounted to around EUR 2.5 billion. Lower revenues were a consequence of the sale of Mediana and Intersport, that is, of divestment and selling companies outside the scope of its core activities.
