Monument to “Fica” to be raised in Kragujevac
Comments
A monument to Zastava 750, the legendary “Fica”, the production of which initiated the motorization of the former Yugoslavia in the mid-1950s, might soon be raised in Kragujevac.
The Kragujevac-based Association of Fica Aficionados has once again started an initiative to raise a monument to this car model, which they have also discussed with those in charge at the local city administration.
The monument to “Fica” should, according to the Association’s proposal, be raised on the Fountain Square facing the lower stone bridge on the Lepenica, or on the Mala Vaga Square, as part of the roundabout to be built on the location.
The city representatives have promised to provide all the necessary help when it comes to the procedures and acquiring the planning documentation. The idea to raise a monument to “Fica” is not new. It dates back to 2012, but was not seriously considered until now.
The production of Fiat 650, later Zastava 750, in Crvena Zastava started in the autumn of 1955, when the first 1,000 cars were assembled by license from Italy’s Fiat.
From that date till November 1985, when the factory produced the last Zastava 750, a total of 923,487 cars of this make were produced in Kragujevac. Similar or identical models were produced, in addition to Italy and the former Yugoslavia, in Spain, Argentina and Austria.
